OHL supports a culture of being a responsible corporate citizen through our efforts to support community organizations and a sustainable environment.
Each year, OHL locations across the globe actively participate in opportunities to collect clothes and food, campaign to raise money, even build a house or two. Our Social Responsibility Committee (SRC) was launched in 2009 to facilitate even more opportunities to impact out local communities and beyond.
Over the years, OHL has:
- Teamed up with Customers to support those in need
- Become a top contributor to the United Way in Middle Tennessee
- Donated storage space for local communities to support Feeding America & American Red Cross
We implement and practice green initiatives throughout our organization to reduce waste, improve energy efficiency, and lower our carbon footprint.
At OHL facilities and offices, it is not uncommon to find the typical blue recycling bins in building corners and under office desks. But at OHL, we know there's a lot more to do. With the amount of cardboard, metal, plastics, and paper that come through our facilities, we encourage our employees to find them a second home. Whether it is through repurposing, donating, or recycling itself, OHL tries to limit our amount of waste. In the California Region alone, we were able to divert 4.1M pounds of waste over the course of 2 years! Each year, OHL employees also participate in Earth Day and America Recycles Day to further the impact we have not just within our locations, but in the community as well.
OHL aims to reduce energy consumption in our facilities through Grade A facilities, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, and energy saving products. Some of our facilities measure elements such as water and electrical usage in order to pin point places in which we can reduce consumption in those areas. On a similar note, OHL's transportation teams optimize networks and routes; select green carriers, alternative fuels, and aerodynamic equipment; and conduct CO2 emissions analysis. Through our CO2 analysis, we have been able to reduce a single customers transportation network by almost 4%! Imagine doing that for 20 customers. That's an 80% reduction in emissions!
