Environmentally Friendly and Socially Responsible Global Supply Chain Management

At OHL, we believe in being environmentally friendly, socially aware and acting in support of responsible initiatives and organizations that improve the lives of people throughout the world.

This is why OHL proudly supports the United Way, participates in local events and is actively involved in the communities in which we operate.  Our nationwide recycling program in the US benefits the environment by reducing, reusing and recycling at many of our distribution centers and offices.

Sustainability Initiatives

Nationwide Recycling program

OHL warehouse and office locations currently have recycling programs for:

  • Cardboard and corrugated materials
  • Plastic stretchwrap and containers
  • Paper
  • Aluminum

Other sustainability initiatives include:

  • Evaluating hydrogen fuel cell technology
  • Working to eliminate clamshell packaging
  • Implementing re-lamping programs
  • Working with ProLogis and First Industrial on LEED certification

United Way

In February, 2008, OHL received the Iris Award from the United Way of Metropolitan Nashville, reflecting the 2007 Pace Setter campaign conducted in the Middle Tennessee area which resulted in over $140,000 in pledges. Similar United Way campaigns were conducted at additional OHL locations.  Scott McWilliams, CEO, serves on the board of directors for the United Way of Metropolitan Nashville.

Habitat for Humanity

Each year, OHL participates in the construction of new homes with Habitat for Humanity. Rick Shepard, Vice President, serves on the Advisory Board, is Chairman of the Dickson, Tennessee Habitat Committee and is also on the Supervisors on Site (SOS ) Team which helps to manage and train volunteers on the construction site. Scott McWilliams, CEO, serves as SOS volunteer.  OHL made a donation in 2007 to Habitat for Humanity International in the names of their customers and employees.

Jobs for Life™

OHL is a Jobs for Life™ Business Partner. Jobs for Life equips churches and faith-based organizations across the country with a work development tool that offers hope to those who struggle with finding and keeping meaningful work. With a focus on character and meaningful relationships, Jobs for Life training helps those willing to accept responsibility to build a new life through productive work and a strong foundation of purpose. Ozburn-Hessey Logistics employees participate on Employer Roundtables, help with mock interviews and serve as volunteers.
