BRENTWOOD, Tennessee - Winners of the Ozburn-Hessey Logistics (OH Logistics) national Top Gun competition for 2007 were recently announced. This competition has been held for 16 consecutive years by the global supply chain management company.
The results of the 16th annual company-wide competition are in, said David Claybrooke, regional training director, and once again we have seen remarkable skill and poise demonstrated by our best forklift operators from 16 competing regions across the United States.
The annual Top Gun competition is an event anticipated throughout the company for its recognition of team spirit. According to Bob Spieth, president, contract logistics, "We all take pride in the work we do for our clients, and for one another. Top Gun is an opportunity for all of us to celebrate the people who make OH Logistics such a great company."
Regional qualifying rounds were held in the 16 regions late this summer, with one winner from each region moving on to the semi-final and final events at the OH Logistics distribution campus in La Vergne, Tennessee October 16 17, 2007. On the first day, the 16 semi-finalists each completed a safety test, vehicle safety inspection and drove a forklift on an obstacle course to determine the five semi-finalists. Scoring was based on safety compliance and skill at completing the obstacle course within a set period of time.
On October 17, the five semi-finalists met for a final driving competition on an obstacle course with increased challenges. Winners were announced and presented with awards at a dinner that evening. The winners were:
- Champion and Best Newcomer: Danny Meade, Granite City, IL
- Runner-Up: Terrence Alexander, McDonough, GA
- Third Place: Scott Hammarlund, Fond du Lac, WI
The other two semi-finalists were:
- Jamie Pearce, Perrysburg, OH
- John Puckett, Memphis, TN
Regional finalists were:
- Juan Hernandez, Romeoville, IL
- Gary Stuivenga, Fontana, CA
- Nelson Harover, Nashville, TN
- Erica Wooldridge, Plainfield, IN
- Gerardo Ojeda Mora, Sparks, NV
- Kelly Brown, Moncure, NC
- Pete Maroon, Kansas City, MO
- Kyle Brooks, Carlisle, PA
- Manuel Ledesma, Fort Worth, TX
- Jacob Land, Lansing, MI
- Aron Dekkers, Laredo, TX
Each regional winner received a Top Gun jacket as well as a plaque, and the five semi-finalists each received a Top Gun watch in addition to a trophy. Special awards were given for:
- Best newcomer: $200.00
- 3rd place: $300.00
- 2nd place: $500.00
- Champion: $1000.00 and a leather bomber jacket
Each driver demonstrated great skills, and our Champion, Danny Meade, was truly impressive, Claybrooke said. Dannys flight to the semi-finals was cancelled due to weather, so he rented a car, drove five hours from St. Louis, got right on a lift truck and turned in a phenomenal performance. His can-do spirit is typical of everyone on the OH Logistics team.
